Artist's Description

The Colorado Rockies From Space

Snowfall returned to the mountain ranges of western and central Colorado on September 18—the first significant accumulation of the 2002-03 snow season. Ski resorts in the region report several inches of accumulation. Most of Colorado experienced drought conditions throughout the summer, so this precipitation was badly needed.

In this true-color scene, acquired on 2002-09-20 by the Terra MODIS sensor, the bright snow-capped peaks contrast sharply with the darker greens and browns of the surrounding landscape. This contrast makes it easier to spot specific mountain ranges. Running north-south near the top of this scene are the Medicine Bow Mountains, roughly in the center of the state and extending northward into Wyoming. To their west, the Rocky Mountain ranges have names like the Elkhead Mountains and the Steamboat Range.

About Eric Glaser

Eric Glaser

Based in Colorado Springs, Colorado USA, I'm a nature and landscape photographer primarily focused on the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Working in both color and black and white, I use a variety of photographic techniques to capture the many moods of mountain landscapes, from intimate perspectives to grand vistas, in locations both iconic and seldom-visited. My goal is to produce images with vivid colors, high dynamic range, and compelling compositions. Longer lens focal lengths are preferred to bring the viewer closer into the scene, requiring every available pixel to help tell the story. Thank you for visiting the site. I hope you enjoy my work. "The mountains are calling and I must go." -- John Muir
